Until the securitization markets open back up FMD will have a tough time, so I would wait until then. I don't know how long it will take. If one's view is that student loan securitizations are a thing of the past, FMD is a sell. If you think the credit crunch will pass at some point, then averaging down at that point would make sense. I am not of the belief that student loans are "the next subprime" bubble to burst. As for TERI, FMD may choose to diversify into other guarantors in the future, but actual loan data does not support the media headlines that the sky is falling.

Chad, an update on FMD would be appropriate at this point after the TERI Credit downgrade. - Thnx

No offense meant, but I am glad you are not in the Palm's board. To start with, Palm knows better than Android the cost of getting a new OS to life. If only because they've had successful and unsuccessful attempts and Android has not. Second, chances are more than good than Palm is way ahead with their own OS than Android is; I'd place a bet that we'd seen a new Palm device before we see a new Android device. Oh, and don't forget that when it comes, the Palm device will be running simulator that will make some 22,000 applications ready to run. Third Palm would lose control over its destiny if it chooses someone else's OS; it will have to compete with other phone manufacturers , all of whom have much better experience in hardware manufacturing; again, Palm won when it used its innovation in BOTH software and hardware and lost when decided to focus only on the hardware part. For the record I am neither pro-Palm nor anti-Android. All I am saying is that it is more than clear that Palm couldn't possibly win by joinging Google.

Instead of spending a year recreating another OS and then building up their new model phones, if palm joins the open handset alliance, it could get a headstart on android and bring a handset to market sooner. In effect, palm would be joining hands with google. what's palm got to lose? nothing. what will palm gain? faster products to market, have more developers working for it via google's platform, an ally in google.
kolev wrote at 06:22 on 11/08/07 GMT
Android, of course, not Andromeda :-)
kolev wrote at 06:22 on 11/08/07 GMT
What would Palm want to do with Andromeda?! Palm's glory came due to successful innovation, design and manufacturing under the same roof and their problems started with dividing the business. Short term, Palm certainly does not belong to the open handhset alliance; same goes for Apple; RIM already is in an alliance of a kind (Sun's J2ME) and the same goes for Nokia with Symbian. By all means, this will be an uphill battle for Google.

PALM looks like it is ready to turnaround. However, I am a little concerned that PALM was nowhere to be seen in Google's Open Handset Alliance. It would have been a good move by PALM to join the alliance. Not sure why they didn't.
